Earth Consultations: unearthing, grinding, binding and naming - Workshop with Lina Bravo Mora

Consulting; the act of exchanging information and perspectives—to deepen understanding, or to arrive at a decision. A consultation is a space created for this purpose.

"For years I have been fascinated by extracting and working with clay. I loved to be covered by it in large quantities, carrying kilos and buckets and feeling how it held all my intense provocations. Now, I'm learning to consult them on a smaller scale with the practice of making watercolors. This workshop is part of that."
For it, we will invite different clays, soils, sands, and minerals to act as pigments, and we will use the sweetness of honey, the fluidity of egg, and the refreshment of gum to bind what has been extracted and fragmented. We will invite water to be the guide and holder for movement. Through the verbs, actions, and choreographies that bring our recipes to life, we will learn about erosion, meandering, filtration, and sedimentation. We will embody what it means to break and to bind. To wash and to let go. To filter, gather, and keep.

Earth’s colors—its sands, clays, and minerals—are wise ones to be consulted. Come and invite them to hold your thoughts, your feelings, your words.
We will work with both local and traveling clays and minerals—some gathered by me in nearby places, others gifted, traded, or carried from distant and magic rivers and quarries.

If you have soil, clay, stones, or minerals you would like to consult, please bring them! In this way, our pigments will be layered with more memories, movements, and places.
