DECOMPOSITIONS
Decomposers are organisms, primarily bacteria and fungi, that break down dead organic matter and waste, releasing essential nutrients like carbon and nitrogen back into the environment. This process, known as decomposition, is vital for nutrient cycling and soil fertility, as it makes these nutrients available for new plant growth and supports the entire ecosystem's food web.
Decompositions refers to the soil and natural cycles of life till death, but it also is a nod to our artistic perception of the world in terms of creating compositions either visually or musically. The artists always re-create a new world through undoing, unlearning, decoding, decelerating and decomposing. We observe the layers of transformation, decay, time, memory, and the ability to break systems of power. The clay we use is made of thousands of years of decomposing soil and minerals, the wood is an accumulation of time in decades. Decompositions means to disassemble dominant cultural or political narratives to reveal what lies beneath. It is a method to represent our breakdowns—mental; emotional, spiritual, material — and re-emerge during the collapsing structures of our current earth.
The exhibition is open today, 2 , 3 and 4 October between 14:00-18:00. The address is President Allendelaan 3, @buurtwerkplaats_noorderhof . Entrance is free.
